ASNS2631: The Origins of Japanese Traditions

ASNS2631 explores some of the most enduring themes of traditional Japanese history and culture, including: Shinto, the Emperor, Samurai, Buddhism, Imperial Cities, Traditional Architecture, Warrior Monks, Castles, Japanese Pirates, Zen, Women’s Literature, Sacred Festivals, Geisha, and much more. In 2015, the unit will focus largely on traditional material culture and be based around the new book by Dr Stavros, Kyoto: An Urban History of Japan's Premodern Capital.
